Here’s a new picture to display.

During the year many people are dedicated to make handicrafts and small furniture like those who visit us from other places. This little picture shows two craftsmen in the act. In fact there are many ways crafts, I’m very fond of that meeting in Antigua, but I know that in other parts of the country are still undiscovered gems.

Taking corn atoll in Chimaltenango

This source who see the merits of the park is the source of Chimaltenango. Tourists usually visit every day and when you buy a cold drink of corn called “Atol corn, sometimes sweet, sometimes it is simple to add a little salt and spoonful of beans.

I served in a small bowl made of Tecomate and a tortilla made from corn, which is usually thin and toasted. The toast is often accompanied by black beans or kneaded with some tomato sauce with parsley leaves and dry cheese sprinkled on top. Chimaltenango where visitors can not go to eat his toast with atoll. When President Bill Clinton visited our neighboring city of Antigua was the pleasure of eating one of these.

Central Park of yesteryear

The creativity of Cesar, gave them the stamp of the Central Park of Guatemala, an image in which the fund may be the National Palace, now converted into Museum and is now called the National Palace of Culture. Construction began on July 4, 1937 and was inaugurated on November 10, 1943 during the government of Jorge Ubico.

This old view of the park makes me think that things have not changed much when it was changed.

People like you take your atolito, some come to sing and others to take pictures next to the source. I do not have many details, such as shoeshine boys, candy vendors, sellers of newspapers in order. There is a little bit of everything. Later we will go to other characters so colorful they are part of our people.

I am of the generation that still dances at weddings with the respective tamal and great coffee and pirujo.

I sincerely thank César Blog Guatemala (Where we have taken this material) for choosing to publish their creative work and which shows, Estampas de Guatemala, which is worth publishing in all forms. Cesar makes it through cartoons and animated gifs very nice and we hope you enjoy and can leave your comments.

The following image shows the activity of cooking tortillas, derived from the mass of maize, the staple food of our people.

IDENTITY GUATEMALA

Guatemala as a country and as a nation should be thought as a rainbow of uncountable colors due to its too many riches, riches, which unfortunately not all guatemalans have acquainted and known very well.

Our history, is a history of a nation which had to be conquered, to be found even though this became destruction of peoples and nature : natures has been harmed since a long time ago, I say sometimes that progress means damage.

I believe the interaction between people from other regions like the conquistadors, and local people : our ancestors; formed our nationality, one, that we can not separate from the mixing of races because otherwise we ought to be against time and time is life.

We are still taking the best of all cultures which have been interacting in our behaviour as people of Guatemala.
Besides this to speak of a Guatemaya and a Guatemala separates but in a kind of racial division and racial divisions stop armony and peace between peoples and people.

Folklore is a term that we still can not understand, we confuse folklore with real traditions, but, ¿ Are there real and genuine traditions in countries now?

I Do not think so, because the interction of events linked with art and culture, changes that progress bring, fashion, intracultural effects, transculture trip going and coming back and other social phenomenae affect and changes.

I ask myself if we could separate the folkloric colors with which we paint our own culture and live our traditions and then how would our traditions look : pale.

So we need a mix of everything, unless we start a profound study of our culture and art and then try to recreate events, facts, costumes, dances and festivities on stages already furnished with elements of past epochs and behaviours, well I am trying to do so thru my investigatins and studies when I write the scripts for our ethnic dances with the group Nán Nikte´Guatemala and thru other proposals we have been submitted but not enough heard.

Traditions are rich but we have to make them richer showing all the people in and ouside our country.

Traditions are the landscapes painted with the essence of colors we had inside tiny gourds before and other colors other brought by ship to us, and when the both painters : from here and there started to paint dropped some drops, we picked them up and started to paint our own portrait of our nationality which formed then our colorful identity.

This mask dance, performed at Christmas in the town of Chichicastenango (and other peoples), is a demonstration of the mix of Mayan and Christian traditions.
