Rocael Hurtado
Born in Quetzaltengo on April 22, 1900. He was a nephew-grandson of the founder of Marimba double keyboard Sebastian Hurtado. It began in the implementation of the marimba from a child and 12 years of age composed his first song with the title “Herlinda”, later was director of marimbas, including among them the marimba Brigade Military Gen. Manuel Lisandro Barillas, “which he founded in 1947. This marimba traveled the United States of America, Mexico, Cuba and Europe, notching up big wins, both with the marimba as a composer.
Among his musical works are: “Adoración”; “Gitana mia”; “Mi reina”: “Vision azul”: “Diamante negro”; “Centroamericanas”; “Tennis Club” and many more. Most of his music is recorded. Professor of Music Education in various national and private establishments in his hometown, where he died on May 17, 1973.
He received several awards and honors during his lifetime and the House of Culture Quetzaltengo the Conderación conferred posthumously.
