José Ernesto Monzón

Born in Todos Santos Cuchumatán, Depto. Huehuetango of the December 31, 1917; accountant, sports columnist and composer, his dedication to the musical composition has been developed as an entertainment and has had a major production in which he has sung the beauty of the motherland and most especially to different places, both Guatemalans and other Central American countries and Mexico, which has been called The singer of the landscape.

Many of his songs have been recorded in the United States, Central America, Mexico and Colombia.

Of their musical works include some that have been recorded by diferenes houses producing albums: “El día de tu santo”; “Milagroso Señor de Esquipulas”; “La Sanjuanerita”; “La Tortillera Mixqueña”; “El Campesino”; “El Labrador”; “El Chimalteco”; “Soy de Zacapa”; “Volcan de Pacaya”; “Livingston”, and so on.

Has earned multiple tributes to him have given different entities; major are among the degree of Emeritisimo that awarded the University of San Carlos and that he tributó the APG (Association of Journalists of Guatemala) in the grand Teatro Nacional. The government granted him a lifetime pension, which he had been suspended, but later recovered.
