Jesús Castillo
Ostuncalco born in San Juan, Quetzaltenago on September 9, 1877, was notable composer who earned the appreciation and admiration of fellow countrymen and foreigners, for their research and experience on the folk music of Guatemala.
This is considered one of the greatest figures in Latin America. Among his works are: “Fiesta de pájaros”; suites Three Indians, three orchestral poems; symphonic poem “Tecún Uman” and “Bartizanic” and “Nicte” arrangements of traditional dances “La Conquista,” “El Torito” Los Venados” y “La Culebra” and his literary invaluable for his deep research: “Music Maya Quiche.” We can say that their studies of expressions of the songbirds of the paternalist Mesoamerica suggest a scientific expertise that already is a formal science in the countries cults and inquisitive: The Ornitofonía. This large Guatemalan died on April 23, 1946.
Castillo was Jesus’ brother Ricardo Castillo, another famous musician Guatemalteco.
