Domingo Bethancourt Mazariegos

Born in the city of Quetzaltenango on December 20, 1906; started in music since the age of 5, playing the marimba in the piccolo and the treble on a wooden crate to reach the instrument.

At the age of 15 years and accompanied her tours of work in his father, Francisco Román Bethancourt, who was the owner of the Body “Two of October.” Suplia to any of the marimbas that were needed in any post of the marimba, and no one had taught him, and that only their heritage, their lineage, his surname and his vocation was his teacher.

For the inauguration of the railway from the Highlands (the only of its kind in Latin America at the time, 1929), Mingo composed a song with that name, so great success, which soon was recorded in the United States for the Central American marimba. Piece that is still much in demand.

In 1932 Mingo organized its own set marimbistico with the name of “Marimba Ideal”, which was unique to the remembered Radio Morse (today TGQ), where he served for 12 consecutive years. With all of the Fifth Military Zone, he traveled in Cuba and the United States, reaping countless triumphs in calling attention to the part of his repertoire.

Sunday Bethancourt was one of the most prolific composers of light music available to Guatemala. Of his inspiration proliferates cite the following ringtones that are recorded by different labels houses, “Callecita of Alamos,” “Whistles, cobbler,” “Antoinette,” “Veronica”; “genovenses Girls,” “Aguacatán”, “San Francisco Zapotitlan “;” Time erases everything “,” Coban, “” The Matraquita “” Dear Rinconcito “,” Xelaju of my memories, “” Brisas del Salamá, “” The Cacique asleep, “” Santiaguito “and so on., and so on.

He received various honors, among others: the Guatemalan government awarded him the “Orden del Quetzal” in the grade of Commander and the House of Culture of Quetzaltenango awarded him the “Golden Button”.
After serious illness died at his home on February 29, 1980.
