The White Nun, national flower

La Monja Blanca, flor nacional
The national flower of Guatemala is the Monja Blanca (Lycaste virginalis), symbolizes beauty, art and peace. This plant grows on other plants for which is called epiphytic (epi-fitón above-ground). It is an orchid and as such has a petal transformed into the center, the label, which serves as a basis for their pollination by insects. This silver is hermaphrodite, the result is a kind of capsule, which contains millions of seeds, which require a certain fungus to germinate, why is very low.
At the Queen area, the northeastern region of our country, is where, specifically in Alta Verapaz.

The commercialization of Monja Blanca is forbidden.
It was declared the national flower on February 11, 1934.
